One of the highlights of my summer the past eleven years is working with educators at MassArt inside the Teaching for Artistic Behavior Institute. The Institute has evolved over the past decade but this year's experience has been exceptional on several fronts.
Diane Jaquith and Katherine Douglas along with John Crowe and Pauline Joseph had organized formal and informal summer retreats and gatherings in New England since 1999. I attended one in Hull, Massachusett's at John's house in 2006 where two dozen educators joined us for a rousing weekend of conversation, dialogue, art making, presentations and discussion.
Other gatherings emerged since, growing in program complexity and attendance. TAB Colorado, Texas TABLab, St.Louis TAB, TAB Southeast, TABSTOCK, TAB Northeast, Atlantic Coast TAB, Wisco TAB, New Mexico TAB and other regional conference hotspots have continued to grow and attract art teachers from across the U.S. and beyond!
I am thrilled that I have been able to contribute to the TAB Institute since 2014.
Clark Fralick and I start our trip to MassArt out by visiting KD in Middleboro. We head out to Boston, set up the studio and join our Institute colleagues from there! Pretty soon we are full bore into the studio experience and that’s where the magic takes place.
Here are some pics from this week long art education pd extravaganza at MassArt. Enjoy!
